A corporate website, an online shop and a quotation portal solve different problems. For a Penang manufacturer, the important test may be how easily a buyer can find a specification and request a quote on a phone. For a retailer, it might be whether staff can manage stock, orders and returns after launch. Start with your hardest customer or staff task, then compare companies that have done something similar.
EBOX publishes this guide and appears in it. The shortlist is alphabetical. It is based on publicly described services and available portfolios or company profiles. We did not commission the companies or assess the quality of their live work independently. Service descriptions are a starting point for your own demo and proposal review.

Match the proposal to the project
Corporate and manufacturing websites
Bring three real buyer questions. Can buyers filter products by application? Can they download current specifications? Can they contact the right person without guessing? Ask the agency to sketch one product page and show how your team would update the document later. For a multilingual site, agree who supplies and approves the copy in each language.
Ecommerce websites
Walk through a test order on mobile, including shipping, payment failure, order confirmation and refunds. Confirm which integrations and subscriptions are included. Ask who owns the store account, product data and payment configuration, and which expenses recur after launch.
Redesigns and migrations
Have the agency list your high-value pages before it changes any URLs. Agree on a redirect plan, analytics checks and a launch test for forms, language links and mobile navigation. Give your staff a staging environment and ask them to complete an ordinary edit without assistance before accepting the handover.
Compare quotes on the same scope
Send the same brief to two or three firms. Include the types of pages you need, the estimated number of products or services, your required languages and any software integrations. Ask each team to separate copywriting, translation, hosting, licences, maintenance and post-launch support. Two proposals with the same number of pages can differ substantially in who writes the content, sets up tracking or carries out the migration.
Before you sign, get written answers to these questions:
- Who controls the domain, hosting and administrator accounts?
- How many design and content review rounds are included?
- Which features will be tested before launch, and who signs off?
- Can your team export the content, products and enquiry data?
- What does the warranty cover, and what becomes a paid change?
Frequently asked questions
How much does a website cost in Penang?
Ask for an itemised quote based on your actual scope. A site with supplied copy and a standard enquiry form is a different job from a bilingual catalogue with search, product data migration and quote routing.
Can a designer maintain the site after launch?
Many providers sell support separately. Ask whether the plan includes security updates, backups, restore testing and content changes, and get the response arrangements in writing.
Should SEO be included in a new website?
Ask for the build scope to cover indexable pages, page titles, a sitemap, mobile checks and redirects where needed. Ongoing keyword research, content production and reporting can be scoped separately.
